Fully Automatic Bottled Drinking Water

automatic bottling line

Project Background

The client is a large-scale bottled drinking water manufacturer. Their existing filling line featured aging equipment, resulting in low production efficiency, excessive manual intervention, and inconsistent product quality. Amidst rising market demand for bottled water, the client urgently needed to build a new production facility and implement a fully automated filling line. The goal was to automate the entire process—including bottle blowing, washing, filling, capping, labeling, conveying, and casing—thereby minimizing manual handling, boosting production capacity and product quality, enabling large-scale production, and reducing long-term operating costs.

Project Overview

To meet the client’s production requirements for 550ml bottled mineral and purified water, we delivered a complete, fully automated bottled water filling line. The solution encompasses the entire process chain: raw water treatment, bottle blowing, a 3-in-1 rinsing-filling-capping unit, visual inspection, labeling, conveying systems, and finished product case packing and palletizing. Designed for PET plastic bottles, the line boasts a production capacity of 12,000 bottles per hour. Following implementation, manual labor requirements on the line were drastically reduced; only a few personnel are needed for routine inspection and monitoring. As shown in the on-site image, workers focus on equipment checks, sampling, and handling line anomalies rather than repetitive manual handling or filling tasks. The workshop is organized and orderly, and the line operates stably and continuously, enabling the client to rapidly achieve large-scale production goals.

Project Pain Points

  1. The old production line consisted of disparate, standalone machines; frequent connection failures during bottle transport led to frequent downtime and insufficient effective production time.
  2. Many processes relied on manual operation; human contact with bottles posed hygiene risks, making it difficult to guarantee product quality compliance.
  3. The legacy equipment suffered from high energy consumption and significant water and air waste, keeping the unit production cost high.
  4. Workshop upgrades required a complete equipment set tailored to a new facility layout, presenting significant challenges in coordinating and integrating the various pieces of production line equipment.

Our Solutions

  1. Integrated Line Solution: Utilizes a 3-in-1 monoblock machine (rinsing, filling, and capping) to consolidate these processes into a single unit; this minimizes bottle transport distances and intermediate transfer steps, thereby reducing the risk of bottle jams. Paired with a fully automatic blow-molding machine, the system enables on-site bottle production, eliminating the need for external procurement and saving on storage and logistics costs for empty bottles.
  2. Fully Automated Downstream System: Equipped with air conveyors, inspection stations, automatic labeling machines, film wrappers, and case packers. Finished products move along the conveyor line, ensuring a fully automated flow from empty bottles to packaged finished goods, requiring only minimal personnel for routine inspections.
  3. Hygienic and Safe Design: The filling section is constructed from food-grade 304 stainless steel and features anti-drip filling valves and a Clean-in-Place (CIP) function, facilitating easy cleaning and disinfection of the entire piping system to meet food safety standards for drinking water.
  4. Customized Factory Layout: Equipment placement and conveyor routing are planned based on the specific dimensions (length, width, and height) of the client’s facility to optimize the production line layout and facilitate future maintenance. Energy-efficient design is also prioritized to reduce water and compressed air consumption.
  5. Comprehensive Implementation Services: Includes equipment manufacturing, pre-delivery integrated testing, on-site installation guidance, commissioning, and operator training, ensuring the production line meets performance standards and achieves target output.

Project Outcomes

  • The entire line consistently achieves a mass production rate of 12,000 bottles per hour (550ml format); equipment operation is stable, and downtime due to malfunctions has been significantly reduced.
  • Direct labor requirements for the production line have been drastically cut; workers now focus solely on inspections, sampling, and equipment maintenance—performing only spot checks on products to eliminate hygiene risks associated with manual handling—while the finished product pass rate remains consistently above 99.7%.
  • The system integrates on-site blow molding and filling, eliminating the need to purchase, transport, and store empty bottles, thereby helping the client lower per-unit production costs.
  • The production line accommodates various PET bottle sizes ranging from 330ml to 1.5L, offering high versatility and allowing the client to switch between different product specifications in the future.
  • The equipment has operated continuously since commissioning, enabling the client to meet supply demands in both local and surrounding markets and further expand their market share.
